My work in clay is prompted by nature and its cyclical process of decay and renewal. My ceramic sculptures highlight recognizable, yet uncommon aspects of nature captured in time, examining the cycles of birth and death that occur in all living things. Such cycles are often under-examined and not appreciated for their beauty and contribution to the natural rhythms of life.

My pieces are offered not as exact replicas of nature’Äôs elements, but as reminders ---- reminders of the haunting beauty and explosive power of a natural, changing environment. I am inspired by images of nature caught in time: a rotting piece of fruit, a fallen leaf, or the reflection of light on a stagnant pond.

With clay, I explore the sensual elements of nature and display those stages of development and destruction that fascinate me. My work moves freely from smooth to rough surfaces, from shadows to light, from exposed planes to hidden crevices, inviting the viewer to witness nature’Äôs dynamic presence.

Primarily using the traditional ceramic techniques of pinch pots and coiling, I work with porcelain to convey the delicate qualities of items that inspire me. My pieces are fired multiple times --- leaving shadowy layers and images infused with depth and memory.
